Set Up a MAG Box in Just a Few Minutes
A MAG Box is a dedicated IPTV set-top box that can be configured using a single piece of information: the portal URL provided by your service. Once this address has been entered in the system settings and the box has been restarted, the channels load automatically, without the need to install an application. This guide explains which models are still usable, how to enter the portal step by step, and how to avoid the most common configuration errors.
What Exactly Is a MAG Box?
MAG boxes are set-top boxes manufactured by Infomir. Unlike a Smart TV or Firestick, they do not require a third-party application: the built-in system connects directly to an IPTV portal. This is what has made them popular for their simplicity, especially among users who prefer a traditional remote control and a stable interface that does not constantly change with application updates.
Two features distinguish MAG boxes from other devices:
- Portal-based configuration: instead of conventional credentials such as a username and password, the MAG uses a unique portal URL.
- MAC address identification: each box has a MAC address printed underneath the device. Your provider associates the subscription with this address, linking access directly to the box itself.
Which MAG Box Models Still Work?
Not all MAG boxes offer the same experience. Older models may still work, but their hardware can limit responsiveness and picture quality. The table below summarizes the situation by generation.
| Generation | Models | Practical Status |
|---|---|---|
| Older | MAG 250, 254, 256 | End of life. They may still display SD/HD channels, but slowdowns are common and updates are no longer available. |
| Intermediate | MAG 322, 324 | Usable for standard HD viewing. No 4K. |
| Recent | MAG 420, 424, 520, 524 | A good current choice: 4K decoding, responsive interface and built-in Wi-Fi depending on the version. |
| Latest | MAG 540, 544 | The most powerful models, designed for 4K and more demanding streams. |
If you already own an older-generation box, it will probably still work for basic use. However, if you are buying one today, consider a 4xx or 5xx model: the difference in everyday usability is noticeable, particularly for 4K streams and faster channel switching.
How to Configure the Portal: Step by Step
Before You Start
- Find the MAC address of your box (printed on the label underneath the device, in a format such as 00:1A:79:xx:xx:xx) and provide it to your provider if requested.
- Retrieve the portal URL sent to you after your order. With Punto Mira, your access details are sent by email or WhatsApp immediately after your MAG Box subscription has been activated.
- Connect the box to the Internet, preferably via Ethernet for greater stability.
Enter the Portal URL
- Turn on the MAG Box and wait for the home screen to load completely.
- Open Settings, then select System Settings.
- Select Servers, then Portals.
- In the Portal URL 1 field, enter the address exactly as provided, without spaces or missing characters.
- Save the settings, then restart the box. Unplug it for a few seconds if necessary.
After restarting, the MAG Box connects to the portal and loads the channel list. If the channel packages appear on the screen, the configuration is complete.
Common MAG Box Setup Problems and How to Avoid Them
- A typo in the portal URL: this is the number-one cause of endless loading screens. Check every character carefully, especially hyphens and forward slashes.
- MAC address not registered: if the provider has not associated your MAC address with the subscription, the portal will reject the connection even when the URL is correct.
- Unstable Wi-Fi: interruptions on a MAG Box are often caused by the network rather than the service itself. Using an Ethernet cable resolves many stability problems.
- Outdated firmware: on older models, an internal software update may be required before the portal can load correctly.
- Portal entered in the wrong field: use Portal 1 and leave Portal 2 empty unless you have been instructed otherwise.

MAG Box vs IPTV App: Which Should You Choose?
A MAG Box remains a practical option if you want a simple, dedicated device with an interface that remains consistent over time. However, it does have limitations in certain situations:
- You watch on several types of screens (TV, smartphone, tablet): an application such as IBO Player, Bob Player, TiviMate or IPTV Smarters can be installed across different types of devices, whereas a MAG Box is connected to a single television.
- You want a modern interface: newer applications offer thumbnails, visual categories and a more modern VOD browsing experience than the traditional MAG interface.
- Your MAG Box is old: instead of investing in a new MAG Box, an existing Smart TV or a Firestick with a compatible application may be sufficient.
The good news is that the same Punto Mira subscription works with both approaches. You can start with a MAG Box today and switch to an application later without changing your subscription plan.
Test Your MAG Box Before Committing
The best way to check whether your MAG Box is compatible is to test it under real-world conditions. Request your free trial: you will receive your access details quickly, configure the portal as explained above, and test the streaming performance on your own setup before making a decision.
